The bodyboard blog of eBodyboarding.com
Well, here at eBodyboarding.com you can tell when swell is on the way because usually our phones start ringing a few days before as friends, customers, and team riders all want to hear what the scoop is and what everyone is doing. And, of course that was the case for this first good sized south swell of the year. Excitement was in the air and everyone has been buzzing due to every forecasters hype on our first real south swell of the year. Unfortunately the weather is not quite the best, but hey that just means the crowds might be a little bit smaller.
So I drove this morning up the cost, from San Clemente, through Dana Point, checking the little Laguna secret nooks and crannies, all the way up to the Wedge and North Newport. The swell was beginning to fill in but really the only spot with bigger surf was the Wedge, and when I got there I didn’t feel like surfing it and mutilating my body. It was just drop and slop. Beans snapped his board, skimmers were miserably embarassing themselves, and all the photographers were bummed because the lighting was bad and nothing was rampy or fun looking at all. There were a few guys taking some heavy beatings on some thick closeouts, but the more I watched, the more I realized that it wasn’t going to get much better. There’s still too much sand and the tide is killing it. So…..here’s some crummy photo’s and a cheesy video report….enjoy….
